Whitefish Mountain Resort in winter or Glacier National Park access in summer. Sleep at Kandahar Lodge (on-mountain, real ski lodge feel) or Firebrand Hotel downtown for the walkable bar block. Day one in summer: Going-to-the-Sun Road through Glacier (50 miles, allow 3-4 hours, photo every five minutes). Day two: Flathead Lake Brewing in Bigfork, Casey's Bar in downtown Whitefish (the dive). Day three is a hike up Mount Aeneas or skiing Whitefish Mountain depending on season. Glacier Park International (FCA) is 15 minutes east; Missoula (MSO) is the larger gateway, 2.5 hours.

Glacier Park vehicle reservation?
Yes — Going-to-the-Sun Road requires a vehicle reservation pass May through September (free at recreation.gov, 60-day window plus same-day window). Plan ahead.
Best winter month?
January-February for the snow. Whitefish Mountain Resort runs from late November through early April. President's Day weekend is peak crowding.
Bigfork worth the drive?
Yes — 35 minutes from Whitefish on the east shore of Flathead Lake. Flathead Lake Brewing has the best beer in Montana (locals' verdict). The cherry orchards are a separate-day photo trip.
