Vermejo — Ted Turner's 560,000-acre sporting reserve in northeast New Mexico — is the only Turner Reserve operating as a full-service guest ranch. Elevations span 6,000 to 13,000 feet across mountain meadows, ponderosa forest, alpine lakes. Bachelor angle: fly fishing on the Costilla and Vermejo Rivers (browns, rainbows, Rio Grande cutthroat), guided elk and antelope hunts in season, sporting clays, free-range bison herds in the lower meadows. Lodge is the historic Casa Grande (Pittsburgh railroad family's 1920s ranch headquarters). All-inclusive: lodging, meals, beer/wine/spirits, two daily activities. Albuquerque (ABQ) is 4 hours; Denver (DEN) is 4.5 hours; Raton Municipal (RTN) is 30 minutes for private aviation.
