86th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally lands August 7-16, 2026 — 80,000+ riders, vendor village, live music every night on Main. Outside rally week, the Black Hills are still the move: Iron Mountain Road's 314 curves and three Mt. Rushmore-framing tunnels, Custer State Park's bison drive (1,300 head on the 18-mile loop), Devils Tower as a day trip. Sleep at the Sturgis Motel (motorcycle parking on-site) or The Lodge at Deadwood for the post-rally decompression. Delmonico Grill in Deadwood for steaks; Whiskey Bar Sturgis for the rally hours. Rapid City (RAP) is the gateway.

Questions

Do you need bikes?
Not technically — but rally week without bikes is missing the point. Eagle Rider rents Harleys 2 hours away in Rapid City. Out-of-rally week, drive the loops in a 4WD.
Rally vs non-rally?
Rally week (Aug 7-16, 2026) = wall-to-wall energy + 2-3x lodging cost. May-July = same scenery, no crowds, half the price.
Iron Mountain Road timing?
1.5-2 hours for the 17-mile run with photo stops at the Rushmore tunnels. Drive at sunrise or sunset for the framed shots.
