Spa day for the recovery, dinner at Harrimans (the resort's signature; chef-driven Virginia cuisine). Day three: Salamander Spirits whiskey tasting (Sheila Johnson's distillery program), the historic Red Fox Inn for a final pint (1728, oldest continuously operating tavern in America). Equestrian for beginners?
Yes — 22-stall stable runs trail rides for all levels. 1-hour intro rides ($150-200) up to half-day cross-country jumps for the experienced. Helmets and tack included.
Foxhunt season?
Middleburg's Orange County Hunt and Piedmont Fox Hounds run November through March. Capping (paying-guest fox hunting with the registered hunt) is real and bookable through the resort with 30-day notice.
Salamander Spirits?
Sheila Johnson's distillery program produces bourbon and rye on-property. Tasting room visits $45-75/person depending on flight. Limited-release bottles only sold on-property.
