SCTA Speed Week — eight days of land-speed records on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Streamliners, lakesters, vintage hot rods all chasing 200, 300, 400+ mph runs across 10 miles of cracked salt. The pits are open: the bachelor crew can walk between the cars, talk to the crews, watch a streamliner crew swap an engine in 90 minutes. 2026 dates: July 27-August 8 (verify SCTA calendar). Wendover (Utah-Nevada border) is the lodging hub; rooms book 6-9 months ahead and historically sell out. Salt Lake City (SLC) is 2 hours east — the redirect lodging if Wendover is sold (drive in for the days). All-inclusive doesn't apply here — this is the genuine motorsport pilgrimage, lodging-and-grandstand-only.

Speed Week 2026 dates?
July 27-August 8, 2026 (verify at scta-bni.org). Main racing days are typically the middle 5 days. Practice runs the first two days.
Is Wendover lodging really sold out?
Yes — confirmed for 2026 per SCTA forums. The bachelor's fallback: SLC hotels at 2 hours' drive each way. Plan for 6 a.m. departures from SLC if you want to catch the morning runs (best salt before heat distortion).
Pit access?
Yes — open pits, no waivers, no badges. The crew can walk to the streamliner staging, talk to drivers, photograph engine bays. Free, real motorsport access you can't get at a NASCAR track.
Vs Indianapolis?
Indy = polished, paved, $100k+ ride-along cars. Bonneville = salt-encrusted hot rods, hand-built streamliners, decades-deep subculture. Indy is the show; Bonneville is the worship. Pick the bachelor's mood.
