Trip Terms

The best man always ends up fronting thousands and chasing Venmos for six weeks. This block kills that. Drop it in the group chat before anyone books — what’s covered, what’s on each guy, who pays when.

Per person
$1,680
Javier's share is split across 6 payers instead of 7. Total trip cost is $11,760 (7 × $1,680). His portion ($1,680) is absorbed by the other 6 guys, so each of you pays $1,960 instead of $1,680 — that's an extra $280 per person. This is the 'groom gets a free pass' move. You're welcome, Javier.

Flights + your own bar tabs on you. Javier's share is covered by us — he gets a free pass. First payment of $600 lands in my Venmo by Nov 25 to lock the house and activities. Reply 'in' if you're committed. This is gonna be legendary.

Made For Him

The personalization most playbooks skip — his hobbies, the inside jokes, his bourbon, his playlist. This is what moves a plan from good to legendary.

Tied to his interests

  • Casa Bacardi Distillery Tour because Javier's obsessed with rum — he'll taste Don Q 151 (his go-to) and learn the history from the source.
  • Isla Verde Beach Volleyball because Javier loves the sport — join a pickup game with locals and compete chill-style.
  • Terrace cigar nights because Javier's a cigar guy — stock the villa with premium smokes and let him lead the wind-down sessions.
  • Old San Juan Food Tour because Javier would kill for mofongo with garlic shrimp — this tour hits the best spots in the city.

Inside-joke touches

  • Print 'Zero Alarms' on matching Day 4 t-shirts (the crew wears them to Marmalade dinner).
  • Name the group text 'Zero Alarms: Javier's Send-Off' — reference it in the welcome-kit note.
  • During the toast round, have someone reference Javier's chill-king philosophy: 'No alarms, no drama, just vibes.'
  • Create a 'Javier's Chill-King Playlist' on Spotify with Héctor Lavoe, Marc Anthony, and Bad Bunny — play it on the villa speakers all week.

Playlist seed

Héctor Lavoe — 'Que Locura Enamorarse de Ti', Marc Anthony — 'Lloraras', Bad Bunny — 'Tití Me Preguntó', Salsa Classics — 'El Cantante', Bomba y Plena — 'La Llave de Mi Corazón'. Play these on the villa speakers during pool days and terrace nights.

The Moment

Every bachelor weekend has the moment — the roast, the slideshow, the toast, the private room. Here’s where and when to do it, and how to tee it up so it actually lands.

Day 6toast roundAfter dinner at Cocina Abierta, around 9:00 PM, on the villa terrace

Condado Beachfront Villa terrace — ocean breeze, cigars, rum, and the crew

Gather on the terrace after dinner. Each groomsman shares one specific memory of Javier + one wish for his marriage. Keep it to 90 seconds each. Go around the circle. Javier listens, then responds. Cigars, rum, ocean breeze. No pressure — just honest, heartfelt moments.

Pro tip: Text the crew 48 hours ahead asking them to pre-think their memory. Have tissues ready. Record the toasts on your phone — Javier will want to hear them again.

Welcome Kit

The “best man nailed it” signal. A bag that’s already waiting in the rental when the crew walks in — hangover kit, branded koozies, his favorite snacks, a couple inside jokes. Small effort, massive return.

Essentials

  • Two cases of Medalla beer (local favorite, cold in the fridge)
  • Liquid IV or Pedialyte packets (hangovers are real)
  • Advil & Tylenol (recovery essentials)
  • Sunscreen SPF 50+ (January sun is no joke)
  • Snacks: plantain chips, local cheese, fresh fruit
  • Hangover greasy-breakfast gift card to a local diner

Personalized

  • A bottle of Don Q 151 (Javier's go-to daiquiri rum) — prominently displayed on the kitchen counter
  • A box of premium cigars (Davidoff or Montecristo) — for the terrace nights
  • A bag of his favorite gas-station jerky or snack (if known)
  • A vinyl of Marc Anthony or Héctor Lavoe (if he collects vinyl) — for the villa record player
  • A handwritten note from the best man: 'Zero Alarms, Javier. Just vibes. Welcome home.'

Nice-to-have

  • Matching 'Zero Alarms: Javier's Send-Off' t-shirts (crew wears Day 4 to dinner)
  • A hand-written note from each groomsman (one memory + one wish)
  • A disposable camera for the weekend (physical photos > phone photos)
  • Custom koozies with 'Zero Alarms' printed on them

Recovery Day

Overpacking the final day is one of the most cited regrets in bachelor-party post-mortems. This is the slow-roll by design — recovery brunch, one light move, airport runs. Nothing else on the schedule.

Brunch

La Alcapurria Quema (Pinones)

Beloved fritter stand with alcapurrias and bacalaitos — casual, authentic, no wait on Sunday mornings. Javier's favorite from the food tour.

Light activity

Pool time at the villa

One last dip in the pool before packing. Low-key, no agenda. Javier sets the pace.

Book flights after 3 PM so nobody rushes checkout. Arrange one Uber XL to the airport at 1:00 PM instead of 5 separate trips — saves money and keeps the crew together until the end.

If Things Go Sideways

The contingency plan nobody writes until it’s too late — weather backup, late-arrival pickup, noise-complaint protocol. Keep it close.

Weather backup

January in San Juan is dry, but occasional afternoon showers happen. If the beach volleyball day (Day 5) gets rained out, swap to Topgolf Condado or a casual indoor activity like a cooking class at Sur La Table. Call day-of — they take groups of 6+ with no reservation.

Late arrival plan

If someone lands after Day 1 group dinner, leave a house key at the villa front desk and drop the address in the group chat. They can grab food at Pinones Kiosks or a nearby diner and meet up at La Factoria (the second bar on the crawl). Nightlife is casual — no pressure to catch up.

After You Land

Run through this the week after the trip — settle the Venmos, share the drive, send the thank-you drops, lock the highlight reel. Closure rituals are what turn a weekend into a memory.

  1. 1Drop all photos in a shared Google Drive album within 3 days — assign someone to collect from everyone's phones
  2. 2Settle the group Venmo / square up any outstanding splits within 1 week — treasurer sends final summary
  3. 3Send a thank-you text to anyone who traveled more than 6 hours (flights from mainland US)
  4. 4Send Javier a short 'here's my favorite moment' text — keep it personal, not generic
  5. 5Post one group photo in the main friend group chat with caption 'Zero Alarms: Javier's Send-Off' — tag everyone
  6. 6Share the Spotify playlist link in the group chat — Javier keeps it for the honeymoon
  7. 7Create a shared Google Doc with 'Best Moments' — everyone adds 2–3 favorite memories from the trip

Pro Tips

  • January in San Juan is perfect — 75–80°F, low humidity, no rain. Pack sunscreen and a light rain jacket just in case.
  • Javier loves salsa — play Héctor Lavoe, Marc Anthony, and Bad Bunny on the villa speakers. The crew will feel the vibe.
  • Don Q 151 is Javier's go-to — stock the villa fridge with a bottle and Medalla beers. He'll appreciate the detail.
  • Beach volleyball at Isla Verde is a local scene — Javier will fit right in. Go early (12:30 PM) to catch the pickup games.
  • Mofongo with garlic shrimp is Javier's weakness — order it at Santaella and Casita Miramar. He'll lose his mind.
  • La Placita becomes a street party Thu–Sat nights — start here for cheap drinks and local energy before hitting the upscale bars.
  • Book the private chef 3 weeks ahead via Cozymeal. Javier should help with the mofongo prep — he'll love it.
  • Cigars + rum on the terrace is the chill-king move — protect this time. No nightlife required.

Group Logistics

Transport: Uber XL for Day 1 airport pickup (2–3 cars, $8–15/person). Rideshare pool for casual nights (Days 2, 3, 5). Party bus for Days 4 & 6 nightlife ($57/person/night). All transport is pre-coordinated in the group chat. Designated driver or rideshare back to the villa every night — nobody drives after drinks.

Nightlife Strategy: Two bar-crawl nights (Days 1 & 6) and one casino night (Day 4). Day 1: start at La Placita (cheap, casual), then La Factoria (upscale), end at El Batey (dive). Day 4: Casino del Mar at La Concha Resort (blackjack, poker, rum cocktails). Day 6: reprise La Placita and La Factoria. No cover charges at La Placita or El Batey. La Factoria has no cover but expect $12–18/cocktail. Casino del Mar has no cover; set a $50–100 buy-in limit per person. Party bus picks up the villa at 9:15 PM on Days 4 & 6 ($400/night split 7 ways = $57/person).
