Day 1 — Wheels Down, Trout Dreams

2:00 PM

Arrival & Cabin Check-In

Crew lands at Reno-Tahoe (RNO), 50-min drive to South Lake Tahoe. Grab rental car or arrange group Uber XL ($60–$80 split). Settle into the cabin, unpack, crack the first Whistlepig rye on the deck.

Tip: Text the cabin owner 24 hours ahead to confirm early check-in; August is peak season.

3:30 PM

Welcome Kit & Downtime

Stock the fridge with Whistlepig, Gatorade, snacks, and cast-iron skillet supplies. Crew settles in, showers, changes. This is the 'catch your breath' moment before golf.

Tip: Have someone grab ice and beer from the local market on the way up.

5:00 PM

Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course — 18 Holes

Doug leads the crew through a championship lakeside round. Four hours of golf, lake views, and light trash talk. This is the warm-up — outdoorsman energy, no pressure, just golf and scenery.

Tip: Book tee time 6 weeks ahead; August is packed. Arrive 30 min early for range.

9:15 PM

Casual Dinner — Cold Water Brewery

Brewpub 5 min from the cabin. House-brewed beer, big portions, mountain-lodge vibe. Doug orders the trout special if available; crew splits burgers and wings. Casual, no reservations needed.

Tip: Order appetizers while waiting for entrees — portions are huge.

10:45 PM

First Night — House Pregame & Cards

Back to the cabin. Whiskey, cigars on the deck, poker tournament with $20 buy-ins. Keep it chill — Day 2 is the big night. Doug's dad and uncles can join or head to bed early.

Tip: Set up the poker table before dinner so it's ready when you return.

Day 2 — The Main Event (Trout & Two-Mile Doug)

7:00 AM

Early Rise — Coffee & Gear Check

Fishing charter departs at 8:30 AM sharp. Crew wakes early, coffee on the deck, Doug reviews fly-casting basics with the guide (who arrives at 8:00 AM). Waders, rods, and enthusiasm locked in.

Tip: Prep the night before — have waders and sunscreen by the door. The guide will bring rods.

8:30 AM

Guided Fly Fishing Charter — Truckee River

Top local guide takes Doug and crew to prime cutthroat trout water. 4 hours of casting, teaching, and Doug in his element. This is the centerpiece of the trip — the moment the crew sees why Doug is obsessed with fly fishing.

Tip: Bring a GoPro or phone in a waterproof case — the photos from this are legendary.

1:00 PM

Lunch & Downtime at the Cabin

Return to the cabin by 1 PM. Crew is tired, hungry, and buzzing. Grill sandwiches, drink cold beer, nap on the deck. This is the 3+ hour unstructured block — no agenda, just recovery and stories.

Tip: Have someone prep sandwich fixings before the charter so lunch is ready when you return.

4:30 PM

Shower & Get Ready

Crew showers, changes into dinner clothes. Doug's dad and uncles freshen up. Whiskey on the deck while everyone gets ready — no rush, just good vibes.

Tip: Designate one bathroom as 'first shift' to avoid the 6-person shower crunch.

7:00 PM

Steakhouse Dinner — Evan's American Gourmet Cafe

Fine dining in South Lake Tahoe. Prix fixe menu, intimate setting, perfect for the crew and Doug's family. This is tradition — the big dinner where Doug gets toasted. Reservation for 6 under Doug's name.

Tip: Call 2 weeks ahead to confirm the group size and mention it's a bachelor party — they'll take care of you.

8:45 PM

Toast Round — The Honoring Moment

After dinner, before dessert. Each crew member stands, shares one specific memory of Doug, and one wish for his marriage. Keep it to 90 seconds each. The best man kicks it off with a Two-Mile Doug story. Doug's dad goes last — sincere and brief.

Tip: Text the crew 48 hours ahead asking them to pre-think their memory. Have tissues ready.

10:00 PM

Nightlife — MacDuff's Pub & Whiskey Dick's Saloon

Two-bar crawl, 10 min walk from dinner. MacDuff's first (live music, craft beer, chill vibe). Then Whiskey Dick's (legendary dive bar, rowdy energy, pool tables). Doug's dad and uncles can peel off after MacDuff's; crew continues to Whiskey Dick's for the big night.

Tip: MacDuff's has live music Fri/Sat — check the schedule and arrive by 10:15 PM to catch the set.

12:30 AM

Late-Night Cigars & Whiskey at the Cabin

Crew returns to the cabin by 1 AM. Cigars on the deck, Whistlepig neat, final poker hand or just stories. Keep it chill — nobody's trying to rage until 3 AM. Wrap by 2 AM.

Tip: Have cigars pre-cut and a lighter ready on the deck table.

3

Day 3 — Sunrise Hike & Goodbye

7:30 AM

Marlette Lake Hike — Tahoe Rim Trail

6-mile round trip, 1,200 ft elevation gain, alpine lake views. Doug leads the crew up. Crew roasts him about Two-Mile Doug the whole way. Sunrise at the lake, photos, then back down by 11:30 AM.

Tip: Start early — you need to be back by noon for brunch. Bring plenty of water and snacks.

12:00 PM

Recovery Brunch — The Red Hut Cafe

Classic Tahoe breakfast joint since 1959. Huge portions, no wait on Sunday mornings. Pancakes, eggs, hash browns, coffee. Crew is tired, happy, and ready to eat.

Tip: Arrive right at noon — they open at 7 AM and get slammed by 12:30 PM.

1:30 PM

Pack & Depart

Crew heads back to Reno-Tahoe for afternoon/evening flights. Arrange one Uber XL ($70–$90 split) or two rideshares. Everyone's tired, happy, and already planning the next trip.

Tip: Book flights after 3 PM so nobody has to rush checkout.

The Bars

MacDuff's Pub

AleWorX Stateline

Pack This

  • - Fly fishing waders, boots, and polarized sunglasses (Doug's obsession — bring extras for crew)
  • - Hiking boots and trail socks (Marlette Lake hike is real — no flip-flops)
  • - Golf shoes and glove (Edgewood is a championship course)
  • - Cast-iron skillet and cooking utensils (for cabin meals and Doug's trout-over-fire dreams)
  • - Whistlepig rye and whiskey glasses (Doug's go-to drink — bring one bottle for the cabin)
  • - Cigars and lighter (deck time is sacred)
  • - Sunscreen and lip balm (August sun at 6,000+ ft is brutal)
  • - Layers and a light jacket (warm days, cool nights in the mountains)
  • - Poker chips and cards (house-party nightlife requires these)
  • - Phone chargers and a portable speaker (for the deck pregame)

Pro Tips

  • - Book the fly fishing charter 8+ weeks ahead — August is peak season and guides fill up fast. Confirm with the guide 48 hours before departure.
  • - Doug will be tired after the fishing charter — the 3-hour downtime block is non-negotiable. Let him nap, don't force activities.
  • - Whistlepig rye is expensive; buy one bottle for the cabin and one for the car ride home. Doug will appreciate the gesture.
  • - The Marlette Lake hike is real — 6 miles, 1,200 ft elevation gain. Start at 7:30 AM sharp or you'll miss brunch. Bring plenty of water.
  • - Two-Mile Doug jokes will write themselves. Lean into it during the toast round — the crew will roast him mercilessly, and he'll love it.
  • - August in Tahoe is warm (75–80°F days) but cool at night (50–60°F). Pack layers and sunscreen — the sun at 6,000+ ft is brutal.
  • - The cabin deck is the best part — cigars, whiskey, cards, and stories happen there. Keep the vibe chill and let the crew hang.
  • - Designate one person as the 'treasurer' to track group Venmo splits for lodging, activities, and shared meals. Settle up before departure.

Group Logistics

Transport: Uber XL for airport transfers (Reno-Tahoe to cabin, ~50 min, $60–$80 split 6 ways). Day 2 dinner is walkable from the cabin (5 min walk to Evan's). Bars are 10 min walk from dinner. Return to cabin on foot or one Uber XL ($15–$20 split). No party bus needed for a 6-person crew — rideshare is simpler and cheaper.

Nightlife Strategy: Day 2 is the only big night. Start at MacDuff's Pub (10 PM, live music, chill vibe) for 90 minutes, then move to Whiskey Dick's Saloon (11:30 PM, dive bar energy) for 1–2 hours. No reservations needed — both are walk-ins. Cover charges are minimal ($5–$10 max). Keep it to two bars so the crew doesn't get too scattered. Doug's dad and uncles can peel off after MacDuff's; the younger crew continues to Whiskey Dick's. Return to the cabin by 1 AM for cigars and final whiskey.
